Miles Jesu's communities in western Ukraine are composed of members of the Greek Catholic Ukrainian rite, a rite of the Roman Catholic Church whose rituals and discipline find roots in the liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and other influences of the East.

In the city of L'viv, Miles Jesu operates a downtown soup kitchen as well as a small church. In the city's outlying villages we operate two homes for orphans and semi-orphans—the men's branch operating one for boys and the ladies' branch, one for girls.

	Girls' Home The Miles Jesu Ladies’ Community opened a soup kitchen in L'viv the late 90’s, including special serving hours for children only. A street lady asked us to take care of her three-year-old, Halia. By 2004, we had finally cleared away all the government red tape and were now “home” to nine little girls...
	Boys'-Eye View of Life in the Bortnyky Boys' Home A special thanks to those of you who have donated to the Miles Jesu Bortnyky orphanage for boys in Ukraine. The daily life of the orphanage can best be understood through the eyes of the boys who live there. In this issue we’ll take a quick tour of Bortnyky through eyes of one of the boys who is 11 years old. We’ll call him Victor.
	Boys' Home There is one boy named Olajic who is only 10. When he was with his family, he had sisters who were 16 and 17 years old but he was the one taking care of all the children in the family. The youngest child in his family is 3 and there are several other young children whom he was taking care of — preparing food, begging for money...
