Continuity Explanation Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Continuity Movement, Today there are just under 60 million people living in Britain. Out of these there are perhaps 5 million Catholics. Most of the rest are nominally divided into numerous Christian denominations. These have proliferated over the years with much division and even bloodshed. Indeed, there are today in the world more than 26,000 Protestant denominations. But Jesus founded only one Church, not 26,000 contradictory creeds. Nevertheless, among all this confusion there has always been in England a small group of Catholics which, often against ferocious persecution, has kept the Faith. This was and is called CONTINUITY. Yet, through all these hundreds of years of Protestant domination, the idea was deeply implanted that if you were a Catholic you were not truly an Englishman. The Continuity Movement has countered this by nurturing the English Catholic seed that has grown in this country since St. Augustine of Canterbury, the first bishop in England sent by Pope St. Gregory the Great. Sadly, there is a growing number of people who have lost their faith. But at the same time, there are many that are finding again the Catholic Faith that for all these hundreds of years has lived on in England. Finding it and helping it grow. The Continuity Movement is encouraging and organising this growing number of converts. By the grace of God, the special protection of Our Lady of Walsingham, and by the prayers and work of each one of us, we can and will bring this land back to the glory of being Mary’s Dowry. We already have more than 1900 people who are members of the Continuity Movement. 1st. All of us commit ourselves to say a simple prayer, every day. 2nd. Some of us have taken the Holy Father’s words to the laity to heart in order to persevere more easily and to encourage each other, forming prayer groups which get together every week to say this prayer, together with the Litany for Unity, and if they so wish, the rosary. 3rd. These meetings can be held in private houses, in churches or in any other suitable setting. 4th. Some, with the consent of the Parish Priest, can have a special Mass offered for this intention, or Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament, or some other devotion. 5th. Some of these groups add to these meetings a short reading telling the history of one of the many current conversions to the Catholic Church. 6th. Some even organise themselves so that they can encourage and help more and more people to join the Catholic Church. Remember what St. Augustine said: “The one who saves one soul, predestines his own”. The Blessed Mother at Fatima said: “Many souls go to hell because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them”. Let us, with St. Faustina, repeat frequently: “Jesus, I trust in You”, that you will return these Isles to being “Mary’s Dowry”. To facilitate setting up a group in your area, contact us. |
